Alan Silber brings more than 35 years of experience to the Charlottesville criminal law firm. Mr. Silber has litigated cases in Federal Courts and numerous State Courts across the United States. He has tried major white-collar cases involving RICO, bank fraud, and securities fraud, as well as significant drug-conspiracy cases, kidnapping (representing a police officer), and murder. Mr. Silber is a member of the bar of nine United States’ District Courts, and has litigated in more than a dozen other District Courts An experienced appellate advocate,Mr. Silber has

 
appeared and litigated cases in five United States Courts of Appeals, the United States Supreme Court, the State appellate courts of New York, New Jersey, and in the Supreme Court of Oregon.
 
Outside of the courtroom, Mr. Silber has earned a reputation for his work with criminal -defense bar associations, as a lecturer, author and as a drug law reformer. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL), and serves as both the Chairman of the Drug Law Reform Committee and the Fourth Circuit Coordinator for the Lawyer’s Assistance Committee of that organization. He has served on the Board of Directors of NORML and the Board of Advisors of the Drug Policy Foundation.

 
He has appeared as a speaker in criminal defense seminars in Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Florida, Louisiana, Washington, D.C., Oregon, Colorado and England. His articles have appeared in The Champion (magazine of NADCL), The Vindicator (magazine of Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers), Rutgers Law Review, and The New Jersey Law Journal.

Dana M. Slater was a local police officer in Albemarle County for eleven years. Clients of this Virginia criminal law firm receive the benefit of Dana’s knowledge of local police forces and of the law enforcement mind set. Ms. Slater is the Vice-Chair of the Albemarle County Police Citizens Advisory Committee selected by the Board of Supervisors to review policy procedure and the budget, and to recommend changes in the police department.

 


A former member of the Board of Directors for Offender Aid and Restoration (OAR), Ms. Slater is well known as an aggressive litigator who can both try cases in the courtroom, and negotiate favorable resolutions for her clients. Her experience includes the defense of felonies and misdemeanors in Virginia courts, substantial drug cases, and supervised-release violations. Ms. Slater also served on the defense team in two capital murder cases in the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia.

Ms. Slater has also argued before the Court of Appeals of Virginia and the Supreme Court of Virginia.

Ms. Slater’s history of hard work and success has also been demonstrated through her status as a world-class distance runner. She set a world age-group record in the marathon/10K National Roadracing Champion, is a two-time winner of the Soa Silverstra Midnight run in Brazil, a two-time All-American runner and, closer to home, was a two- time member of the NCAA Cross-Country National Team at the University of Virginia.
